Police said that Levonne Arthur Evans, 33, of 246 W. Center St., was driving south on Long Ridge Road at 7:20 a.m. when he moved across two lanes and sideswiped the personal car of an unnamed Stamford Police officer near Cold Spring Road, police said.
The two drivers got out of their vehicles to examine the damage, but Evans then left the scene, police said.
He continued south on Summer Street with the officer following behind in his vehicle and calling headquarters to report the incident, police said.
Evans continued south on Summer Street and entered the Ridgeway Shopping Center with the officer following him the whole time, police said.
He then drove out of the parking lot and turned onto Summer Street in the wrong direction on the southbound-only street and then pulled into a alleyway beside the Robek's store in the shopping center, where he was cornered by police and surrendered without incident, police said.
He was charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility and illegal operation while under suspension. He posted $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.
